I just found out this week that some of my bibs have been sent over the border to Storyville’s Baton Rouge store.  It’s their first trip out of Texas.  If you’re near LSU, go check them out.

Last week I made my first custom bib.  I’ve made a few bibs in the past for friends where I choose fabric that reminded me of them or added their child’s initial, but this is the first time I did a special order.  My friend, Stephanie, requested a bib with skulls and her friends’ baby’s name.  I think it turned out cute.  I hope they like it.

One of my bibs got to be part of a photo spread in the Fall 2009 issue of Jewell, a free Austin magazine about local shops and restaurants.  One of the shops they featured this season is Parts & Labour.  Check out pages 14 and 15 to see my bib “Charles” front and center.

The kind folks at Storyville once again took my bibs on the road.  This time to the Austin City Limits Music Festival.  I got to visit them when I attended the festival on Saturday.

I found this wonderful folk music themed fabric at a vintage store.  There was a pretty big piece, and I made several bibs.  Then a friend of mine saw the bibs on my blog and wanted to know where I got the fabric.  She had a childood quilt with some of the same fabric.  As a surprise, I sent her what I had left of the fabric.  I bet she’ll make something good.

The cool blue fabric in this bib and many others was once part of a Halloween costume when my husband dressed as a tsunami.  One of my friends pointed out that the pattern looks like marbleized paper.  It always makes me think of the ocean, so the bibs I make with it are usually water related.

I don’t usually toot my own horn, but lately I’ve felt compelled to brag about my bibs. My daughter is almost 15 months old, so I’ve been using bibs for over a year now.  Mine are my favorite for several reasons:

1.  The fabrics I use resist stains better than the terrycloth bibs you usually find in stores because food doesn’t get stuck in the fibers.

2.  The colors stay bright and pretty after lots of washing.

3.  The snaps I use make it difficult for babies to remove the bibs themselves.  The usual velcro type bibs are easy for babies to rip off.

4.  I know how much love and care goes into the construction of each bib.
